Three reasons to choose our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program
Best BJJ in the North East of Scotland
Aberdeen Martial Arts Group offers a top class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program affiliated with the famous Carlson Gracie Team and guided by Maestro Rey Diogo of Los Angeles. Our resident black belt, Peter Richardson, takes the program on a weekly basis and is supported by an array of brown and purple belts.
We’ve Grown from Strength to Strength
The group has grown from 3 blue belts in 2003 to a team of over 50 students with experience all the way up to brown belt. Several students have trained in Brazil and the US and they share their experience in class. We also support a very active seminar program where we host World Class BJJ Masters from all over the world.
World Class Teaching and Training Methods
We have developed training methods that will help you improve your skills quicker than you thought possible. Whether you are a total beginner or a more advanced student, you will develop to new and improved levels. Your skills will include throws, arm locks, chokes and the intricate use of the ‘Gi’, for submission and control.
Our Instructor & Coaches
Peter Richardson – Professor and Head Coach
Matt Russell & Ben Randall – Black Belts & Coaches
Peter is the head instructor of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program and is a Black Belt 2nd Degree under Rey Diogo of Los Angeles, a very well known and respected 5 stripe black belt under Carlson Gracie Senior.
Matt and Ben are our Black Belt coaches who run some of the classes in the BJJ Program. They are both students of AMAG and the BJJ Team starting from white belts and training all the way through the grades to black belt. They help run the classes and know the students well.
All these coaches will help you in your journey that we know as – BJJ!
The BJJ Program is also supported by a number of brown and purple belts. These guys also help take class when the main instructors are out of town.
BJJ, MMA & Muay Thai
When I moved to Aberdeen I looked for somewhere I could start training again. I had a background in Boxing, Muay Thai and I was really keen to start learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but learning something new in a new environment is quite daunting.
The best part about AMAG is that you are able to learn something brand new without experienced people taking advantage and injuring you, everyone works with a team mindset and the way they teach makes it really easy to understand.
MMA & BJJ Programs
I first joined AMAG for the MMA class and to get fitter but soon diverged into the other classes as I became more and more addicted to it. I put this down to the friendly, family like feel of the group and the high caliber of instructing from Leigh, Peter and the other instructors.
MMA & BJJ Programs
I started BJJ with AMAG about a year ago now and I have not regretted it since. There is a lot of talented students that are always there to help and progress other participants willingly. It is a very good team to be a part of, which makes for a great atmosphere every session.
Five Benefits of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Knowing your physical limits
Controlling fear and panic
Improve strength through flexibility
Improve physical fitness and conditioning
Our BJJ Program has a number of other influences.
The BJJ program at the AMAG Academy has a number of other grappling art influences brought in to augment the students skill because of Peter’s study of other grappling systems. We have several judo players of high level taking part and teaching within class and thus allowing the students to get a better understanding of Tachi Waza – otherwise known as the art of throwing. Additionally, there is a large influence from Erik Paulson’s Combat Submission Wrestling system that blends different forms of wrestling, Machado BJJ and Shooto.
Goal setting will become your new approach.
The program will encourage you to making the goal of getting your black belt one of your long term plans. It will show you how consistency and small steps or ‘small victories’ as we like to call them help pave the way to larger and more accomplished goals. You can take this into your life outside of BJJ and feel success not just on the mat. We will also encourage you to look closer to home as well and aim to train hard for your first stripe and take part in your first competition. That’s when the real fun begins!
You can start training in the BJJ Program TODAY!
You can start this program today you dont even need a gi (training suit) to start with. Just get on the mat and start training because before you know it you will be hooked on one of the best life styles on the planet. Achieving things you never thought possible and being healthier and stronger than ever before.
You will wonder why you never started sooner!
